2011-2012 SEASON
For its 75th Season, Red Mask is pleased to reprise three successful shows from its past.
ALL MY SONS
A Drama by Arthur Miller
First presented by Red Mask in 1953.
Auditions September 11 & 12, 2011 at 7 p.m.
Performances November 4-6, 11-13, & 18-19, 2011.
An American classic that received the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play, All My Sons is set in the late 1940's. During World War II, Joe Keller and Herbert Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father's partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power.
There are roles for 6 men and 4 women.
THE GIRLS IN 509
A Comedy by Howard Teichmann
First presented by Red Mask in 1962.
Auditions November 20 & 21, 2011 at 7 p.m.
Performances January 20-22, 27-29, & February 3-4, 2012.
Two ladies are discovered in the back suite of a once-fashionable hotel in New York that is being demolished. They have been there since 1932 when Hoover lost and have vowed to remain secluded until a Republican is elected. The press and the National Chairmen of the Republican and Democratic parties descend upon the ladies, members of one of the country's oldest and richest families. The ladies defy both politicians and face eviction and disgrace in a delightful comedy which seems even more relevant today. The Girls in 509 was the first Red Mask show presented in the group's current home, the Kathryn Randolph Theater.
There are roles for 9 men and 3 women.
RUMORS
A Farce by Neil Simon
First presented by Red Mask in 1995.
Auditions January 29 & 30, 2012 at 7 p.m.
Performances March 23-25, 30-31, & April 1, 6, and 7, 2012.
At a large, tastefully appointed Sneden's Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. It's only a flesh wound, but the four couples gathered there are about to experience a severe attack of Farce: the host lies bleeding in one room...his wife is nowhere in sight...and his lawyer, Ken and wife Chris must get "the story" straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity. Red Mask's staging of this show in 1995 became one of its biggest hits.
There are roles for 5 men and 5 women.
