Misery

by William Goldman

adapted from Stephen King's novel

Directed by Paul Strain

Stage Managed by Lisa Strain

Sponsored by the Danville Library Foundation

"Misery," a gripping stage adaptation by William Goldman of Stephen King's novel, plunges the audience into the chilling encounter between Paul Sheldon, a celebrated novelist, and Annie Wilkes, his self-proclaimed number one fan. After Paul is rescued from a car crash by Annie, he finds himself imprisoned in her remote home, where his gratitude swiftly turns to horror. The play masterfully weaves a tale of obsession and survival as Annie's volatile moods and deranged devotion demand that Paul resurrect her favorite character from his novels. Through intense dialogue and a claustrophobic setting, "Misery" explores the dark intersections of fandom, creativity, and control, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats as Paul's desperation to escape escalates into a deadly game of wits with his captor.
